The smell of rain

This morning is a gift. Coolness in the air has replaced the blast furnace effect that we had yesterday. Seriously, the head index was 100 degrees. This morning it is 63 degrees. A shower has gone through and I am enjoying it.
The smell of rain is still in the air. For some reason, it makes me think of visiting my Grandma Dorothy. We used to spend a lot of time outdoors there. Her home was small and four rambunctious kids needed the outdoors to run off some steam. She used to have a table and chairs set up under a huge old tree. There was an oil cloth tablecloth covering it and a cups of coffee served on that table. A citronella candle there helped fend off the mosquitoes. Do you remember the kind that were colored glass with a plastic netting over it? The adults as well as us kids spent time outdoors. There was
a sack swing set up on that tree. Oh what fun that was. And a horseshoe game at the opposite end of the yard, near the highway. Clank! Grandma Dorothy enjoyed her flowers and she had the prettiest red poppies. They were always very showy. She also made lawn ornaments. The kind you cut a shape from wood and painted.

We never wandered too far but being out in the country there was lots of room to go. A nice quiet there too. Memories are good. The smell of rain brings them right back.
