Sometimes you just feel like a kitchen day

Today, perhaps because it is fall and such, I felt the urge to be in the kitchen and do some good old fashioned things, like canning. Janel and Reed gave me a bag of apples so I made some applesauce.  It is amazing how good that smells. Cinnamon is one of my favorite smells in the kitchen. There is a nice homeyness to it. I wish they didn't cook down to about half for all the mess of it, but I think it is still worth it. It will be fun to share with my family sometime.

I also am making some Tomato jam,  I got the recipe on my last Napa visit from the chef at Whitehall Lane, Larry Calicchio.  It was wonderful on a piece of bread and he was glad to share it.  It's fun to get some things like that where just for the enjoyment of it, it is freely given.  Makes for a nice experience and memory of the day.

And I am on my second pot of coffee. Nice on a chilly day.  In the afternoon it will be tea.
